9th Amendment"The enumeration in the Constitution..."  Meaning:  The word 'enumeration' means making separate mention in a detailed account.

Many rights of American citizens are detailed in the first ten amendments - the Bill of Rights - but not all of them.

Some people opposed the Bill of Rights because they did not believe that they were a necessary addition to the Constitution. These opponents argued that many of the rights were not granted by the government and that any rights not listed in would be taken away.

The Ninth amendment provided reassurance that rights not listed could not be taken away by the government and that the adoption of Constitution itself, and its construction, would limit the powers of government.
